Venice at Night — Empty Canals & Footsteps

Venice is the only major city with no cars anywhere in it, and once the day visitors have gone the result is genuinely strange: you can hear a single pair of footsteps three streets away. The ambient floor is water moving against stone, the occasional boat engine on a wider canal, and a lot of nothing. Sound carries enormous distances through the calli because there is nothing to compete with it.

That makes this the outlier in the city collection here — every other walk is offering masking noise, and this one is offering the absence of it.
