90's Chill Lofi - Rain Chillhop Beats

This is part of the wide YouTube subgenre of long-form lofi mixes set against rain ambience and looping anime stills, usually anchored around 90s-flavored boom-bap production. The beats lean on dusty soul samples and MPC-style swing, with vinyl crackle laid on thick enough to become a stylistic signature. The rain layer is doing real work too: it masks the loop seams between tracks.

These mixes are everywhere now, but the format actually predates the modern lofi boom. DJ Shadow's Endtroducing was doing something not far off in 1996. I keep this one bookmarked for sleep specifically. Rain plus instrumental hip-hop turns out to be one of the more reliable combinations for actually falling asleep, not just lying there.
