MF DOOM - Lofi Villain

Lofi & Chill1 track

Daniel Dumile, the masked rapper-producer behind MF DOOM, Madvillain, King Geedorah, and Viktor Vaughn, died in 2020 and left behind one of the most influential discographies in underground hip-hop. This lofi tribute reworks his beats and samples. The dusty soul loops and off-kilter drum programming that defined Operation: Doomsday and Madvillainy get slowed down and stripped of vocals into something closer to background listening.

I don't usually love remix tributes but this one earns it. The original beats were already half-lofi in spirit, so stripping out the rapping lets the production breathe. Slowed instrumental versions of tracks like "Accordion" or "Rapp Snitch Knishes" hit differently once you've worn out the originals.
