Old School RuneScape — Classic Relaxing Music

Old School RuneScape exists because Jagex asked players in 2013 whether they wanted the 2007 build of the game back, and enough of them said yes. The music came back with it: short MIDI loops written largely by Ian Taylor, each tied to a region, most under two minutes. "Flute Salad", "Newbie Melody", "Scape Soft", "Sea Shanty 2" — the titles are as unserious as the compositions have turned out to be durable.

There is a whole generation for whom these loops are the sound of being twelve and ignoring homework. The sound font is plain General MIDI, which by any technical measure is poor and by any emotional measure is the entire point. It holds up as sleep audio because the loops are short and harmonically simple — you stop hearing individual tracks after about ten minutes and the whole thing turns into one texture.
