Simon Chylinski scored Subnautica for Unknown Worlds across four years of early access, and this is the album as it stood at the 1.0 release in 2018: "Salutations", "Into the Unknown", "Tropical Eden", "God Rays", "Precipice". The writing tracks depth rather than plot. Shallow-water cues stay warm and tonal, and the further down the game takes you the more the melody dissolves into drones and sonar returns.

Anyone who played it has a specific memory attached to the Safe Shallows theme, usually involving the Aurora burning on the horizon and a decision not to swim any deeper today. Ninety minutes straight is more sustained calm than the game ever actually grants you, since in play these tracks arrive cut with the sound of something large approaching.
