Fallout 4 — Walking the Commonwealth in 4K

Gaming1 track

Fallout 4 is set in 2287 across a ruined Boston and the New England around it that the game calls the Commonwealth, in an alternate history that never left the 1940s and 50s — diners, drive-ins, tailfins, all of it irradiated. DayDream Gaming walks through it slowly in 4K with the original in-game ambient score left in, and that restraint is the whole appeal: no commentary, no combat, no fast travel.

Inon Zur wrote the score and most of it is texture — sparse strings and low brass surfacing for a few bars when you crest a hill, then getting out of the way again. There are far more popular Fallout mixes on YouTube, but nearly all of them are audio pieces sitting behind a still image: cosy shack, rain, whiskey, saxophone. Pleasant enough to listen to and nothing whatsoever to do with the Commonwealth. This is three and a half hours of the actual place.
