80's Tokyo Vibes 🎧 Lofi Hiphop Mix for Chill & Study

Retro & Synthwave1 track

The 80s in the title points at city pop, the Japanese studio-pop boom that ran from roughly 1979 to 1988 around Tatsuro Yamashita, Mariya Takeuchi, and Anri: chorused electric piano, slap bass, glossy seventh-chord voicings recorded on absurd budgets. Run through lofi hip-hop the gloss goes matte — those chords survive, but under dusty drums and with the top end rolled off.

The cover is a girl in red-and-blue headphones against a concrete wall with stickers peeling off it, drawn in the flat cel style of 80s TV anime and tinted the same washed teal as the wall. It is the alley behind the polished album sleeves it is nodding at. I put this on for evening work — city pop harmony carries more melody than standard lofi, which makes it bad for reading and good for anything mechanical.
