Minecraft — Calm C418 Ambient Soundtrack

Gaming1 track

Daniel Rosenfeld scored Minecraft as C418 from 2010 onwards, releasing Volume Alpha (2011) and Volume Beta (2013) as standalone albums. The compositions ("Sweden", "Subwoofer Lullaby", "Wet Hands") are sparse minimalist piano pieces that play randomly during gameplay rather than on loops, which is why they feel less like a soundtrack and more like weather. He left the project in 2020 and the newer music by Lena Raine and Kumi Tanioka has continued in roughly the same direction.

Hard to overstate how much C418's piano shaped a generation of ambient and lofi listening. There's an entire YouTube subculture of people listening to "Sweden" on loop while studying. I'm one of them. The track is structured so the simple chord change at the midpoint hits exactly right every time.
