Diablo II — Soundtrack with Rain Ambience

Gaming1 track

Matt Uelmen scored Diablo II in 2000, and the Tristram theme — fingerpicked acoustic guitar over a low drone, played by Uelmen himself — is the piece most people are actually here for. He built the rest largely out of ambient beds rather than melodies: wind across the desert acts, water in the sewers, a distant choral pad in the jungle. Very little of it announces itself as music at all.

Laying rain over that works better than it has any right to, because Uelmen was already writing weather. Two hours of it holds one specific mood — not menacing so much as a wet night in a town where everyone has gone indoors and bolted the door. There is a plain remastered soundtrack elsewhere in this catalogue; this is the version for when you want the room itself to feel like it is raining.
