DOOM: The Dark Ages — Official Soundtrack

Mick Gordon scored DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal, and after the public falling-out over the Eternal soundtrack mix in 2020 id Software handed the medieval prequel to Finishing Move — the Seattle outfit of Brian Trifon and Brian Lee White, joined here by Jay Wiltzen and Alex Klingle. Bethesda put the full 35-track album up on May 14, 2025. The riffs are still downtuned into subsonic territory, but they sit inside a real orchestra and choir instead of running the whole show, which is what the game's castles-and-dragons setting asked for.

Nothing here recedes into the background, so it is useless for reading and very good for the mechanical half of work — bulk edits, cleanup, anything where momentum matters more than thought. The album isn't wall-to-wall assault either; between the fight cues there are long stretches of low sustained strings, and I skip forward to those when I actually need to think. Worth hearing on speakers at least once for the low end.
