Disco Elysium — Noir Detective Jazz OST

Gaming1 track

Disco Elysium released in 2019 from Estonian studio ZA/UM with a soundtrack composed by British Sea Power (now Sea Power), the Brighton-based art-rock band who'd been making melancholic guitar music since the early 2000s. Their score uses location themes like "Whirling-In-Rags", "Coastal City", and "Burn, Baby, Burn" to capture specific neighborhoods of the fictional city of Revachol with a kind of weary post-rock beauty.

I think this is the best video game soundtrack of the last ten years. Not the most ambitious, not the loudest. Just the most cohesive. Every track sounds like it was written for a specific street corner in Revachol, and once you've played through the game it's almost impossible to hear them out of context.
